Motorola X: 5 Reasons Google Might Launch Android 5 Key Lime Pie with Own Device

Motorola X could be the 2013 smartphone to launch Android 5 Key Lime Pie. Google has always downplayed its acquisition of Motorola in 2011 to reassure Android licensees of fair trade. But are there basis to rumours sparking anticipation of an X Phone on Android 5 coming out soon?

Phonesreview.co.uk recently published this Motorola X Phone concept. The site reported designer Jason Chen's best guess as to how the next Google flagship phone will look like.

Android fans are now excited about Google's annual event for developers, the I/O conference, which will transpire in May this year. This same event launched Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in June last year. The Google-Asus Nexus 7 tablet was the first to run on Android 4. Instead of looking at a Nexus 7 upgrade, some tech analysts are pointing to Motorola X for this year's big Android announcement.

Here are 5 reasons behind the possibility that Google would launch Android 5 with its Motorola X phone.

5. An Android executive at Google has recently highlighted the nature of its relationship with Motorola. Hiroshi Lockheimer, vice president of engineering for Android at Google, has said: "It's almost as if [Motorola is] a separate company." It can be interpreted in such a way that Google is speaking to its other partners. A Motorola X hopeful could put it this way: 'We will launch Android 5 with Motorola X, but you have no reason to worry. Motorola is just like you, a partner.'

4. Launching Android 5 on a Nexus 7 upgrade (rumoured to be called Nexus 7.7) is fine. But launching the latest Android on a smartphone is a better, bolder statement. Google has to rise to the challenge being posed by new smartphone releases, including HTC One, Sony Xperia Z and Samsung Galaxy S4 among others.

3. Google-LG Nexus 4 smartphone was released only in November last year. The release was followed by months of agonizing period of waiting for early buyers. A Nexus 5 launch in May would be infuriating for many gadget shoppers.

2. Innovation spins the game in the tech industry. Whatever innovative ideas Google has developed since the last I/O event, it might want to demo the execution using its own purebred Google device. Any integration of existing and emerging Google services (Gmail and Google + among others) will look great in a pure Google device.

"We've inherited 18 months of pipeline that we actually have to drain right now, while we're actually building the next wave of innovation and product lines," Google CFO Patrick Pichette has been quoted as saying, in relation to the Motorola acquisition. Considering that this deal was announced in a statement in August 2011 (for $12.5 billion), Google should be ready to introduce Motorola X, the very first Google Motorola Mobility device by now.
